Pull Apart Party Loaf
Ingredients:

  • 1 16-18 oz. round  loaf Italian or sourdough bread
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 tsp. dry ranch dressing mix
  • 1/2 cup (about 5 slices) cooked, chopped thick-cut bacon
  • 1/4 cup jarred jalapeno peppers, chopped
  • 10 (3/4 oz) slices of chopped cheese of your choice
  • 2 tsp. of chopped parsley, if desired
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350. Place two (24-inch) pieces aluminum foil, crossing one over the other, on flat surface. Cut bread, using serrated knife, in grid pattern, spacing about 1-inch between rows. Do not cut through bottom crust. Set aside. Combine melted butter and ranch dressing in medium bowl. Add all remaining ingredients except parsley; mix well. Place loaf in center of aluminum foil pieces. Spoon cheese mixture into cut areas of bread. Wrap foil loosely around bread. Place onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake 30 minutes. Pull back foil; continue baking 5-10 minutes or until loaf is golden brown and cheese is melted. Sprinkle with parsley, if desired. Serve immediately. Pull out individual bread pieces, using tongs or 2 forks and reaching down into loaf to include filling and bread. Enjoy!
The Funny Bone

Once a captain on his ship was disturbed by his assistant telling him, “Sir! Sir! There are 5 enemy ships on the horizon.”The captain tells the man,” Get my red coat and prepare for battle!”

The assistant runs without question to get the captains red coat and prepares for battle. After their victory, the assistant asks the captain why he wanted his red coat.

The captain tells the assistant “If I was shot you would not be able to tell I’m bleeding and you would keep fighting.”

The assistant thought this was a great idea. The next day the assistant came to the captain, “Sir! Sir! There are twenty enemy ships on the horizon!”

The captain was stunned. He looked at the assistant and told him “Get me my brown pants!”

Delta Zeta Sorority at The University of Georgia

If anyone has spent any amount of time in the south, they know that sororities and fraternities play a big role across hundreds of college campuses. And, thanks in part to Hollywood, some of these institutions don’t always get the respect they deserve. It’s more than just a social gathering with your closest friends. Some of these groups are playing a huge role in social activism and community outreach. One such sorority is the Delta Zeta chapter at The University of Georgia. They are committed to service. In fact, their creed states, ‘To those whom my life may touch in slight measure, may I give graciously of what is mine.’ This year alone, they have already raised $7,300 from their annual Wing Bash to help various organizations, specifically those benefiting individuals who are hearing and speech impaired. Likewise, Delta Zeta has partnered up on a national level with The Painted Turtle Camp, which is located in California for kids suffering from chronic illnesses. This camp is run solely by Delta Zeta and each year, members of UGA’s chapter are fortunate enough to participate as mentors and counselors. Through these outreaches, it’s evident that UGA’s Delta Zeta sorority is doing something right within their community. In fact, their creed goes on to state, ‘To my friends, understanding and appreciation, to those closer ones, love that is ever steadfast.’ Perhaps if we shared this same thought with those we interact with on a daily basis, we too could be a spotlight in our own communities!

Wears Valley Ranch

In 1991, Jim & Susan Wood, along with their three children, left their home in Sandy Springs, GA to fulfill a vision that they had been praying about for over twenty years. (We highly suggest clicking here to read how the vision all began. Tissues are recommended!) In the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, Wears Valley Ranch was birthed. Their goal is simple: ‘to promote the spiritual, emotional, intellectual, social and physical development of children in need of a stronger family support system.’ Wears Valley Ranch accomplishes this goal by providing Christian homes, education, and counseling to children rescued from families in crisis. Their school, camps and retreats all reinforce this demonstration of Christ’s love and it’s their desire to ‘see every person inspired to follow Christ, healed from the past, and equipped to reach his or her full potential.’ To learn more of the incredible work being done at Wears Valley Ranch or find ways how you can get involved, visit their website at www.wvr.org.

Custom Double Doors For Atlanta Market

North Georgia Replacement Windows has a new line of doors that we’re excited to offer customers in the Atlanta market. The new doors are designed to replace the odd size 10 inch transom and side lite. The new door configuration is a double panel design in which the top three quarters of the door are glass and the bottom ¼ has a nice decorative wood panel design. The doors are a fiberglass shell for durability, low maintenance, and insulation and a hybrid mahogany top layer for a beautiful wood finish. Read More.

How many times a day do you open and close your refrigerator? Depending upon your current model, a new Energy Star refrigerator can save you up to $150 a year.

Tip: One way to test your refrigerator seal is closing a dollar bill in the door. If the dollar bill drops when you close the door, you may want to consider getting the seal fixed or replacing your refrigerator altogether.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Rice Krispe Treats
Ingredients:
– 6 cups Cocoa Krispies Cereal
16-18 Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, diced
5 tbs. of butter or margarine
3 tbs. of light karo syrup
1 (10 oz) pkg. plus 2 heaping cups of mini marshmallows
1/3 cup of peanut butter
1/2 cup of chocolate chips

Directions:
In a large bowl, combine cereal and diced Reese’s. Set aside. Spray 9 x 13 pan & set aside. In large pot, melt butter over low heat. Add karo syrup & marshmallows & stir continuously until smooth. Remove from heat. Add cereal mixture into pot and fold together until cereal is evenly coated. (Peanut butter cups will fall apart as you fold so don’t overly mix.) Press into 9 x 13 pan and set aside. In microwave safe bowl, add peanut butter and heat for 30 seconds. In a separate microwave safe bowl, add chocolate chips and melt at 30 second intervals, stirring in between intervals until smooth. When peanut butter is cool enough to handle, transfer into small zip lock baggie. Cut small corner off & drizzle back and forth over the rice krispie treats. Reapeat steps with chocolate. Either let treats sit at room temp. to cool or pop into the fridge for about 5 min. to speed up the process. Cut, serve & enjoy!

One of the exciting aspects of our job is when we get to meet people and learn about them on a personal level – beyond their window and/or door needs. A prime example of this is a recent customer of ours, Carey Lewis. Lewis is Chief Serving Officer of ‘Actors, Models, and Talent for Christ’, or AMTC. This organization is a non-profit ministry dedicated to making good bolder in film, fashion, music, and theater. Lewis states that, ‘AMTC prepares God’s performers (both physically and spiritually) to climb the mountains of arts, entertainment, and media–the most influential mission fields on earth. They do not enter these mission fields in condemnation, but in excellence and in love–showing girls, boys, men and women a better example to follow.’ For more information on Lewis and AMTC, please visit www.amtcworld.org.

Have you ever met someone who has the uncanny ability to put a smile on your face no matter what situation you’re in? If not, meet Brian Brent. He is just that type of man. Brian has been working for Vytex, one of our window manufacturers, for the past three summers. During his first year, he made cardboard protectors for the windows. Newsletter - Quarter 3Brian was so fast that he was able to fill ten large boxes in his first week there! Last year he was promoted and began helping with grid assembly. Taking the same pride in his new position as he did in his previous one, Brian quickly mastered the skill to perfection and was awarded Vytex’s ‘Master Grid Maker’ recognition. This summer, Brian has continued his dedicated work on the window assembly line. On August 28th, Brian is scheduled to have heart surgery. Energy Savings Tip

Newsletter - Quarter 3Here are some simple ways you can earn some ‘back-to-school’ energy savings around your home:

* Turn off your computer and monitor when they’re not in use & plug home electronics into power strips that can easily be turned on/off.
* Lighting makes up about 10 % of home energy costs. Save up to 75 % of that energy by replacing incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs). They also last longer, saving money on replacements.
* Wash only full loads of dishes and clothes

For more information on these tips and others, visit the U.S. Department of Energy.
