Windows 101

Windows 101

In the half-century between World War II and the late 1990s, the industry for window innovation was painted shut. Average homeowners had very few options in terms of style or material, and the generic, single-pane facades across the United States.

Since then, the industry has burst wide open, and the possibilities seem endless. We’ve gone from famine to feast, and it can be overwhelming trying to decide which make and design to get.

So, we’ve called in the professionals at North Georgia Replacement Windows for help navigating the complex universe of modern window options, starting with the most obvious question:

Windows of Opportunity

North Georgia Replacement Windows and Vytex Windows Join 104.7 The Fish ‘Windows of Opportunity’ Promotion

Atlanta, GA, August 2015 – From June 1 to July 12, North Georgia Replacement Windows and Vytex Windows ran the “Windows of Opportunity” promotion on 104.7 The Fish radio station, offering listeners up to 15 free, energy-efficient windows – a $6,000 value!

Listeners were asked to submit a picture of their home, along with their personal reason for desiring new windows. We received almost 250 entries, and the station carefully narrowed them down through a detailed selection process. We were then presented with the difficult task of selecting a finalist. With so many deserving entries, you can imagine the challenge we faced. At the end of the day, it was one story of strength, perseverance and selflessness that stood out among the rest.

With that, North Georgia Replacement Windows, 104.7 The Fish, and Vytex Windows are honored and proud to announce that Mike Collins of Buford, Georgia is the winner of new windows for his home.

Mike has been battling Leukemia for over two years now, and his family’s budget for new windows has instead gone toward paying medical and other everyday expenses. Mike’s story inspired us all, and we are pleased to begin the work of installing new, energy-efficient and maintenance-free windows in his home.

We at North Georgia Replacement Windows would like to thank Vytex Windows and 104.7 The Fish for their support of the 2015 “Windows of Opportunity” promotion.

The Funny Bone
Sam walks into his boss’s office. ‘Sir, I’ll be straight with you, I know the economy isn’t great, but there are three companies after me, and I would like to respectfully ask for a raise.’ After a few minutes of haggling, the boss finally agrees to a 5% raise, and Sam happily gets up to leave.

‘By the way,’ asks the boss as Sam is getting up, ‘which three companies are after you?’ ‘The electric company, the water company, and the  phone company,’ Sam replied.

The Red Carpet Experience

At North Georgia Replacement Windows (NGRW), we understand that you can purhcase a window from a lot of places. Some are better than others, but there’s one thing that will always separate NGRW from other companies and that’s our ‘Red Carpet Experience.’

It starts from the initial call or visit to our showroom where you’re greeted by friendly, knowledgeable personnel who can guide you through the process of choosing the best windows, doors or insulation for your home. When you have one of our expert consultants in your home, you’ll immediately recognize that we are there to serve your best interest, and our no-hassle, no-gimmick, no-pressure approach to doing business will be truly appreciated.

The ‘Red Carpet Experience’ is also the way we treat your home. The actual red carpets are thick, rubber backed rugs used to protect the surfaces of the areas we are working around. They are safer to work on and provide superior protection. Our master carpenters wear booties and pay attention to the fine details of their craft, like using premium OSI sealants and even wiping your new windows down.

When we leave, we want your home to be more clean and beautiful than the condition we found it in. Plus, you’ll enjoy savings on your energy bills and maintenance for as long as you live in your home.

Employee Spotlight
Rebecca Scott
In April 2008, NGRW was growing fast and the owners were growing weary. After interviewing many job applicants, Ted called his mother to express the hardship of finding the perfect office administrator. At this time, Ted’s mom tells him of a smart young lady that she goes to church with that was looking for a job. Meet Rebecca Scott…

Rebecca is a graduate from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism. (She’s our editor – a.k.a Grammar Queen.) Rebecca has one of the most competitive spirits, while at the same time being one of the most compassionate people you could ever meet. Along with being a die-hard Braves fan, Rebecca is very involved with her church and recently just came back from a mission trip to the Philippines.

Rebecca handles answering the phone calls, placing orders, posting on social media, and above all keeping the guys around the office in-line. We are truly blessed to have Rebecca as part of the NGRW team and anyone who has ever dealt with her understands why.

Energy Savings Tip

With the recent snow and ice, it’s hard to believe that Spring is just around the corner. However, before you know it, the temperatures will be warming up. Here are a few tips for how you can save energy this Spring:

1. Natural Ventilation – when temperatures are moderate and humidity is limited, you can cool/heat your home simply by opening a window or door.

2. Get Moving- with nicer temperatures, enjoy a walk or bike ride as opposed to driving your car. This will keep you healthy and reduce fuel consumption.

3. Don’t Heat Your Home With Appliances – On warmer days, avoid using the oven. Try a toaster oven or even grilling outside.

Atlanta Door Buying Process from NGRW

Monday, November 18th, 2013

NGRW_Blog_Door_Buying_Process111313In the midst of looking for front doors in Atlanta? The process of buying a new door is fairly simple. It comes down to a few key pieces of information. When brought together, the result is an entrance that not only beautifies the home but makes a statement regarding the taste and style of the owner.

One way to determine if the door you choose will blend well with the rest of the home’s facade is to find a picture of the one you like. Visualization tools are available that can add the image to a picture of your home, offering you a chance to see the end result before you make any physical changes. Bring a picture of your home to the specialists at North Georgia Replacement Windows and we’ll create a custom option for you that not only gives you a sneak preview, but also allows you to make an informed decision.

Take a few measurements to determine if the size of the door you want will look good in the entry way and to make sure your desired style is available in your size. Measurements also give you an idea of how much extra room you may have for transoms and sidelights. The size and style of the door should also complement the existing structure and decor. Do your best to retain consistent style throughout to maintain the architectural integrity of the home but realize that there are many different options and personal preferences.

Remember to take into consideration the location of the door and the frequency with which it will be used. A main entry door should be extremely sturdy and able to withstand constant or frequent opening and closing. If the door is at the main entrance, choosing a grade of privacy glass may also add a certain amount of comfort and protection. Call the Atlanta door experts at North Georgia Replacement Windows for more information about our customized door buying process.  770-888-1604.

Iron and Fiberglass Security Doors from Atlanta’s North Georgia Replacement Windows Provide the Optimal Protection

Monday, November 18th, 2013

NGRW_Blog_Door_Security111313Iron security doors protect you and your family against the elements and deter unwarranted intrusions by installing over your existing door. Additional features and fixtures help to enhance household safety, and the variety of styles allow you to choose the right door to fit your needs. These benefits and many others make iron security doors a prudent investment. If you combine a fiberglass door replacement in conjunction with an iron security door, you can realize some of the top door security features available in the Atlanta market.

One of the main security features is the multi-point locking system that engages with the door handle, which is preferable to deadbolts or regular handle sets. This system’s advanced features will provide you with peace-of-mind and a greater sense of security. Laminated security glass adds yet another layer of protection and does not shatter in case of an attempted break-in. Integration of doors and home security systems is a relatively easy process.

Alarms mount to doors via:

  • Surface mounted systems
  • Plunger style systems
  • Drill contacts into frames
  • Wired or wireless systems

Select door brands such as ThermaTru offer enhanced security strike plates that are designed to withstand more pressure, keeping them from breaking under stress. Whether you are looking for decorative iron security doors or regular models, available styles allow you to customize the look of your home. Optimizing home security makes smart sense given the risks thieves pose.

Iron security doors and fiberglass entry systems from Atlanta’s NGRW look sharp and are an effective method for preventing home intrusions. You have access to the doors and features you need to improve home aesthetics and safety when you deal with North Georgia Replacement Windows.

Don’t Be Fooled By Atlanta Window Imitators – Choose North Georgia Replacement Windows

Thursday, October 10th, 2013

ngrw_bevel_number_webNot all windows are created equal, and not all window replacement companies do comparable work. These are important facts to remember when you are choosing a window replacement company. Your home is one of the most important things you own, and your windows protect that investment – providing comfort, security and money-savings. Low-priced options may sound appealing at first, but they may not deliver in the areas that are most important.

You Get What You Pay For

You have probably heard this saying before, but some things bare repeating. There are times in life where you will come across good deals, but for the most part, you usually get what you pay for. This is certainly true when it comes to replacement windows. The only way to get the performance you want and the quality installation you need is to go with a quality vendor and a skilled installation team – both of which you will find at North Georgia Replacement Windows (NGRW).

Atlanta Window Pride and Quality

NGRW has a reputation as one of the best window replacement providers in the region, and we work hard to maintain that reputation. Instead of focusing on offering you the cheapest window replacement, we focus on offering you the best. This doesn’t mean the most expensive, either. It simply means the best value for your money.

We want your home to look good, and we want to make certain that your home is protected from the elements. To accomplish this, we maintain a staff of highly skilled installers and offer only the best replacement windows on the market. Our team can help you choose the best Atlanta windows for your home, and then install those windows perfectly for years of reliable use. Not all providers can honestly say the same.

If you are considering replacing the windows in your home, please give us a call today. We are happy to come out for a free consultation to help you decide on the perfect replacement plan, and we guarantee our work.

Choosing the Right Front Door for Your Home in Atlanta

Thursday, August 29th, 2013

Peachtree_doorThere are crawl space doors, double doors, patio doors, decorative doors and much, much more.

No matter what your need, if you’re in the market for replacement or new doors in Atlanta, North Georgia Replacement Windows (NGRW) has you covered. But NGRW isn’t just your run of the mill company – they treat every customer with individualized care depending on their situation. Here’s how:

Step 1: Observe: The professionals at NGRW will look and analyze your home and architecture to give homeowners the options that will best work with their situation. Homeowners can even bring in a photo of their home, which NGRW can input into a special software program to change out the door to give homeowners a better sense of what their choices will look like after installation. It’s essentially a “try it before you buy it” program.

Step 2: Decide: Aside from aesthetics and style, there are various other factors that must be considered when weighing replacement door options. How much privacy is desired? What is the homeowner’s budget for a new door? What type of materials do they like? Picking a new door isn’t always an easy decision – that’s why NGRW offers custom door design and installation to suit the wants and needs of any customer.

Step 3: Other Considerations: There are frame options, finish options, hardware and sizes. NGRW will handle all of this so selecting a door creates little to no inconvenience to the homeowner. Doors are installed correctly and seamlessly by its team of certified professionals who are fully insured and bonded.

Just because it’s worth mentioning again, NGRW also is more than happy to custom design doors so the homeowner can get exactly what they’re looking for. Any style, any material, any type and any application – it can all be custom designed so that all parties are completely satisfied.

Home Energy Improvement Program Contractor

North Georgia Replacement Windows Accepted as an EarthCents® Home Energy Improvement Program Participating Contractor

Atlanta, GA, July 2013-North Georgia Replacement Windows, the premier home window replacement company in Atlanta  is proud to announce  that the company has become a Program Participating Contractor with Georgia Power’s EarthCents Home Energy Improvement Program. This is great news for customers, who can now enjoy rebates when energy efficiency improvements are made to their homes.

“Joining Georgia Power’s EarthCents Home Energy Improvement Program has taken time and dedication on our part, and it’s yet another way for us to show our dedication to our customers,” said Owner Ted Kirk. “Now they have even more reason to count on North Georgia Replacement Windows for all their home improvement and energy efficiency needs!”

A residential home can be considered a system. When one aspect of that system falters, it directly affects other components. An easy to understand example is air leakage around  windows.  Inefficient windows can allow cold air to seep in during the winter, or hot air to seep in during the summer, which causes the home’s HVAC system to work harder to achieve the desired temperature and humidity.

With a BPI (Building Performance Institute) Assessment from the professionals at North Georgia Replacement Windows,  customers will receive an evaluation of their home pinpointing areas that are contributing to energy waste and recommend specific improvements. Once these changes are implemented,  customers may be able to save hundreds, even thousands of dollars annually.
