What to Expect During Your Atlanta Window Replacement Project

Monday, June 10th, 2013

what_to_expect_2Most people have never tackled a window replacement project. And while it’s true there are many do-it-yourselfers out there, chances are that going from room to room to assess the energy efficiency and quality of installation of their existing win
dows isn’t their first task of choice. Not to mention getting high up on that ladder and working on your exterior windows – better leave that to the professionals at North Georgia Replacement Windows!

When North Georgia Replacement Windows takes on a project, we do it right, the first time. Ours is a competitive industry and shabby work will not abide. Our expert team handles each job from inception to completion, using the proper materials and tooling to ensure your absolute satisfaction with our craftsmanship, and your total delight with your new replacement windows.

We have the experience to pinpoint unexpected issues that may arise. After all, we deal with existing homes and office buildings on a daily basis – we’ve seen it all! Other fly-by-night window contractors lack the motivation to take the extra measures that make a window replacement project an air-tight and flawless undertaking. There are many considerations!

  • Using the Proper Sealants – Is the glazing properly sealed? There is a huge difference between cheap sealant and good sealant, and that difference is crucial to the long-term performance of your windows, the protection from the elements and the energy efficiency they provide.
  • Tempered Safety Glass where Needed – Some areas of the home may require tempered safety glass and are subject to home inspections – as licensed general contractors, we understand that process completely.
  • Window Cladding and Capping – Sometimes specialized trim work is necessary on the window exterior. We wrap older wood-trim exteriors with a special aluminum coated with a permanent PVC-enamel finish. This is known as cladding and, when not done correctly, it can allow for wood rot. We do it correctly.
  • Proper Mitering of Corners – It’s the detailed care in our work that really makes the difference. Without proper, fastidious mitering, you have gaps which lead to loose panes and air drafts. After all, we’re trying to improve your home’s energy efficiency!
  • On-Site Worker Safety – We never cut corners on safety. We always ensure each job site is 100% safe – for our workers and your family.
  • Complete and Thorough Clean-Up – When we work in your home, we take the utmost care of your belongings and furnishings. We use drop cloths on all the furnishings, we vacuum thoroughly and always try to leave your home cleaner than we found it – 99% of our customers rate us highest for the quality of our clean-ups!

As we said, we understand that most people have simply never undertaken a window replacement project, or those who have will have generally done it once only. Unexpected issues invariably arise, and a lack of experience can lead to all sorts of unforeseen problems. Save yourself time, money and stress by calling the good guys the first time. North Georgia Replacement Windows takes pride in educating our customers on what to expect before, during, and after their window replacement project in Atlanta.

You will improve your home’s look, its value on the market, and the bottom line on your utility bills when you call North Georgia Replacement Windows! Call us- 770-888-1604 – we look forward to serving you!

PVC Windows Save Time and Money for Historical Projects

Saturday, May 4th, 2013

pvc_options_1North Georgia Replacement Windows offers composite milled PVC windows that have the look and feel of authentic wood, but don’t succumb to common problems of wood such as rotting, insect infestation, germ colonization, and water damage. PVC windows are therefore a perfect choice for historical projects because they allow a historical building or recreation of one to have the authentic look and feel of wood without having to deal with its organic erosion.

PVC windows look precisely the same but work much better

NGRW is able to replicate the specifications of a traditional wood window precisely in our PVC windows, and we can capture even the most specific nuances in grid patterns for a replacement that is so authentic you won’t be able to tell that you’re looking at PVC windows.  Our PVC windows also come factory primed and can be painted to match your color preference on the interior and exterior.

A permanent solution

PVC windows provide a totally permanent solution for all homes and facilities. This permanence can especially benefit historical buildings and recreations by ensuring that organic decomposition is never again a factor in windows or doors. Water damage and insect infestations will be things of the past. PVC windows can look and feel just like wood but offer you a permanent solution that wood could never give you.

Historical Societies? Regulations? We can work it out.

North Georgia Replacement Windows will meet with any historical society or board in a historical district to discuss our product, the codes of the district, and the reasons why they should use PVC windows instead of natural wood for your replacement and reconstruction projects. This way, you won’t get into any trouble for choosing PVC windows.

Window Frame ReplacementsAtlanta Window Replacement Options: Frames

Replacing windows can be a little scary if you don’t know what your options are. At North Georgia Replacement Windows, our goal is to take the headache out of Atlanta window and door replacement. We want you to be happy with your choice for many years to come and we’re here to help you through every step in the process.

With temperatures dropping to nearly freezing each night in Atlanta, it’s already time to bring in the plants and get ready for the holidays. It’s also a perfect time to replace old or damaged windows with new, energy-efficient ones.

Atlanta window replacement will keep your home warmer in the winter, reduce your energy bills, and give your home a fresh, updated look that’s sure to leave a good impression on guests.

We offer a huge variety of window choices, but there are three main types: wood clad, vinyl, and cellular PVC. All three are virtually maintenance-free and look fabulous in a variety of settings.  Here are some quick facts about each material to help you decide which one is best for your project.

Wood Clad

Wood is the most traditional window framing material. It is a renewable resource, and people have been using it for hundreds of years. Wooden windows can be easily painted or stained to suit changing tastes or decorations. They add rustic charm and sophistication to any home. They don’t attract condensation like aluminum windows can, and they quickly add value to your home.

While some people feel that wood windows require more maintenance and replacement, it isn’t always true. Almost any wood window becomes maintenance free when combined with a exterior made of vinyl, fiberglass, or aluminum. These clad exteriors are aesthetically pleasing, highly efficient, easy to clean, and they protect the wood underneath. Vinyl clad comes in just a few colors and aluminum can be any color to match your home.  Fiberglass windows can even be painted on the exterior.

Wood does have some drawbacks, however. Without regular maintenance or cladding, wood can rot, warp, twist, or expand and contract according to the weather. And, of course, they’re susceptible to termite infestation. Wood is also not the cheapest material.

People choose vinyl windows because they are cost-effective and energy-efficient. They provide a lot of insulation, which means that your home will be warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer and your energy bill will also be lower. A wide range of colors are available, they are resistant to weathering, and they never need to be painted.

While high quality vinyl windows will last for years and years, cheap or inferior quality vinyl windows may discolor in intense heat, and some styles can’t be painted if they get damaged or your tastes change.

All vinyl windows look different from traditional wood windows. This can be a challenge if you’re not replacing every window in your home or building from scratch. When replacing only a few windows, don’t mix and match windows on the same side. Instead, replace every window on one side, then replace the sides when you have the time and budget.

North Georgia Replacement Windows will never try to cut corners on vinyl windows. We want you to be happy with your windows today and tomorrow.

Cellular PVC

Cellular PVC is similar to vinyl but much stronger. It looks just like wood but will not rot or weather like wood. It’s about the same weight as wood and can be sawn and sanded just like wood, too. It also withstands heat better than traditional vinyl. It insulates better than vinyl and wood, making it the most energy-efficient frame option available.

Cellular PVC is newer to the market than wood or vinyl. While it lasts longer than any other material and provides the greatest relief in energy costs, cellular PVC can be more expensive than other window materials. It is manufactured from manmade materials, so it encourages less dependence on natural forests but is not considered an eco-friendly choice.

If you want to custom paint or eventually change your window frame color, cellular PVC is an excellent choice. However, if you want to paint over dark colors, you must use vinyl-safe paints to avoid warping.

When it comes to picking the best replacement windows for your project and home, North Georgia Replacement Windows’ reliable and helpful staff can help you out with everything you want to know. 1. The best replacement windows have high performance glass that saves energy, preserves natural light, and protects your floors, walls, and furnishings from fading. Their innovative designs help keep the heat out in the summer and keep the heat in during the winter. Low-E coatings and gas fill are two such features that can enhance energy performance.

2. Choose replacement windows that are maintenance free or have low maintenance options like clad wood, cellular PVC, and vinyl. Each one looks and performs a little differently, but you can count on all of them being low maintenance.  North Georgia Replacement Windows’ maintenance-free windows come in a variety of colors to save you from painting. Control Window Replacement Costs with These Three Tips

Monday, August 27th, 2012

Upon initial thought, the idea of setting a budget for a window replacement project may seem overwhelming. However, it is possible to control your costs and still get the energy efficient windows you have been longing for. In efforts to help balance your budget without compromising quality, North Georgia Replacement Windows has put together the following three tips to help control your window replacement costs:

1. Buy quality, not brand names – While some brands have a history of quality, there are others that are more expensive without any extra benefit. At North Georgia Replacement Windows, we only provide and install quality products. Although we do sell popular name brand windows, we provide them for the benefits they may offer to certain customers, not for the label they contain. Our window selection is one we offer because we know they’ll look great and last for years. We encourage everyone to do their research on brands, but perhaps a more educated approach would be to put just as much focus, if not more, on the advantages and performance of the windows themselves (i.e. frame material, glass package, thermal performance, etc.).

2. Know what types of windows affect price – Although we offer an assortment of window brands, there are three main overall types of windows: vinyl, milled PVC, and clad. Without compromising the quality and performance of the windows themselves, each type carries its own advantages and disadvantages, such as their ability to be painted, their warranties, and namely, their price. From least to most economical respectively, these three types of windows should be considered when keeping in line with your budget.

3. Buy what’s right for you – With all of the options available in today’s market of replacement windows, it’s easy to become confused. To make sure you stay in line with your budget, do some research and make a list of exactly what is important to you in finding the perfect replacement window (i.e. the ability to be able to paint/stain, exterior colors, grid options, etc). Our team will work with you to give you the products and services you desire without pressuring you to buy ‘extras’ simply for our gain. When you have what you want in mind, it is easier to remain focused and not be persuaded into buying something you don’t really need.
